Today marks the 76th anniversary commemoration of the end of the Battle of Okinawa. Here is an article in the Japan Times.
Over half the civilian population of the island were killed or committed suicide (coerced or forced) in the months-long battle. Small wonder that the majority of the population of Okinawa, occupied by a foreign military power, desire an end to war and the means to war.
